Here’s what nobody tells you when you decide to publish your own book.

You finish the manuscript. You did it. The hard part is over.

Except it isn’t.

Because now you’re also a marketer. And a web designer. And a graphic artist. And a metadata specialist, whatever that means. And a social media manager, a cover art director, a formatter, a launch strategist, and somewhere in there you still have to show up to your actual job because the books aren’t paying the bills yet.

How many jobs is that? I lost count.

I’m Stephany Simmons, and I’ve been independently publishing commercial fiction since 2011. I have made every mistake there is to make, climbed every learning curve, and spent more late nights staring at a KDP dashboard than I care to admit. I know what it feels like to pour everything into a book and then realize the publishing part is its own full-time job, one nobody hired you for and nobody trained you to do.

Hen’s House Press grew out of that experience.
